ABILENE – Abilene Christian completed a three-match weekend sweep with a shortened 4-0 win over Lamar on Sunday afternoon.
Both teams agreed beforehand to cut the match off when one team had clinched the team win to alleviate a long drive for Lamar after the match started later than scheduled.
"We got a ton of matches and that's the important part," said ACU Head Coach Juan Nunez. "We had to cut this one short I don't think either one of us expected it would be 4-0. In doubles, the energy was great and all three singles matches were a battle but we were able to get it done. They're a great team. They spoiled our Alumni Weekend last year and they will be ready for us when we play at their place later this year."
ACU clinched the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3.
Daniel Morozov and
Dario Kmet got the 6-1 win on the first line and
Mihaly Deli and
Merse Deli won on the third line.
Ethan Scribner and
Benjamin McDonald were tied 5-5 at No. 2 doubles when that match was suspended.
Cesar Barranquero won at No. 3 singles and Kmet at No. 2 singles, both in straight sets. Morozov got the match-ending win at No. 1 singles in a pair of 7-6 sets.
ACU improved to 4-3 and returns to action Tuesday with a contest at Texas A&M.
