COMMERCE – Abilene Christian posted 20 runs and came away with a split at the Lions Invitational on Sunday, falling 7-6 to Omaha and defeating Texas A&M-Commerce 14-6.
Olivia Marble had three hits and
Sammie Shelander and
Catrin Hoffman posted two each in the first game.
ACU trailed 4-0 before Shelander homered in the fourth to make it 4-1.
Down 7-1 in the seventh, ACU came up with five runs.
Bubba Rote and Shelander had RBI doubles, Hoffman had a two-run home run and
Sydney Kaiser added an RBI double – all with one out. Omaha was able to close the door after that rally came up one run shy.
Lina Russo was charged with the loss.
ACU kept the offense going in the second game, picking up 17 hits. Marble and Shelander had three hits each with
Kaydee Bennett, Hoffman, Rote and
Avery Miloch adding two each.
The Cats got off to a 2-0 start in the first inning on a two-run double by Shelander.
Commerce got a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the first but ACU answered with four in the second on a two-run single by Rote and a two-run double by Miloch.
ACU tacked on three more in the fourth on a two-run homer by Hoffman and a sacrifice fly by
Rachel Cook.
Marble made it 10-4 with a home run in the fifth.
Bennett homered,
Skylar Padgett added a two-run double and one run scored after a single by Shelander in a four-run seventh.
Talia Nielsen went the distance for the pitching win, picking up a pair of strikeouts and allowing no earned runs.
The Cats finish off their trip to Commerce with an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Monday.
