ABILENE – Northern Illinois salvaged a win from the four-game series, taking a 14-7 win from Abilene Christian on Sunday.
The Cats, who won three of the four games, came up with eight hits but couldn't overcome NIU's 10-run fourth inning.
Maddox Miesse got ACU on the board in the first inning with a sacrifice fly after the Cats had fallen behind 2-0 in the top of the first.
ACU added four runs in the fifth inning on an RBI single by
Miller Ladusau, a sacrifice fly by
DJ Van Atten and a two-run home run by
Gino D'Alessio.
Jack Nielsen tacked on an RBI ground out and
Ranse Radtke drew a bases-loaded walk for ACU's final two runs in the ninth.
Ladusau and
Aaron Staehely had two hits each for the Wildcats.
Brett Garcia was charged with the pitching loss.
Parker Matthews worked two hitless scoreless innings with four strikeouts in relief.
The 3-1 Wildcats head to Globe Life Park on Wednesday to take on Oklahoma State.
