Box Score 2 LAS CRUCES – Abilene Christian's seventh-inning rally came up short and the Wildcats left New Mexico State with losses of 9-1 and 3-1 on Saturday.
ACU trailed the second game 3-0 heading into the seventh but got the tying run aboard before New Mexico State got the final out.
Randi Davila walked and moved to second on a bunt single by
Isabel Martinez.
Olivia Marble moved the runners up on a ground out and
Riley White got an RBI single to make it 3-1 but
Skylar Padgett was called out at home. After
Sammie Shelander drew a walk, ACU had a pinch runner caught trying to advance to third to end the game.
ACU out-hit NMSU 8-5 in the game with
Kaydee Bennett getting three singles. Marble, White,
Avery Miloch and
Catrin Hoffman also singled in the game.
Talia Nielson took the loss in the circle despite allowing just one earned run.
Ella Beeman pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
The Cats had five hits in the opener, including a solo home run by Bennett in the fourth inning.
Karli Manney had two singles, Hoffman had a double and
Sydney Kaiser added a single.
Lina Russo took the loss.
The Wildcats finish off their first road trip of the season on Sunday with a game at 1 p.m. Central at UTEP.
