OREM, Utah — The Wildcats suffered their second straight Western Athletic Conference loss on Thursday, as they fell to the Utah Valley Wolverines, 3-0.
The 'Cats fell in straight sets, 13-25, 28-30 and 19-25.
In the first set, the Wolverines completely dominated, outhitting the Wildcats .407 percent to ACU's .036 for the whole set.
ACU's best set of the match came in the second set. At one point, the Wildcats were down 18-24 but were able to rally back on a 6-0 run to tie the set. Despite reaching two set points, Utah Valley was able to clinch the set on a 3-0 run.
The third set was close throughout the first eight points, but UVU went on a 9-1 run to take control. ACU went on a 6-1 run to bring the set closer, but the Wolverines went on another 3-0 run to close out the set and win the match.
By the end of the match, UVU held the advantage in nearly every statistical category over ACU. The biggest difference came in hitting percentage and blocking.
The Wildcats finished the match hitting .083 while UVU hit .208 percent. The Wildcats finished the match with two blocks, while UVU dominated the set with 16 blocks on the match.
Bryley Steinhilber led the Wildcats with a team-best 14 kills and two service aces. Madeline Guffy also had two aces, as well as a team-best 19 assists and 16 digs, a double-double for her. Hannah Gonzalez led the team with two blocks.
Up next, ACU heads even further northwest to Seattle to take on the Seattle U Redhawks for the second time this season. The two teams played for the first time on October 5, where ACU took a 3-2 win over the Redhawks inside Moody Coliseum.
