SEATTLE — The Wildcats saw another loss on the road this season, falling to the Seattle U Redhawks, 3-1.
The 'Cats took the first set 25-17, but Seattle U took the following three sets 25-11, 28-26 and 25-18.
The Wildcats dominated the first set, with ACU hitting .433 while getting 15 kills in the set while holding Seattle U to a .077 hitting percentage. The Wildcats also had 10 digs, two aces and two blocks in the set.
In the second set, the Wildcats only had five kills while hitting zero percent, and had five service errors and hitting errors to give Seattle U a dominant second-set win.
The third set was a story of runs for both teams, Seattle U went on a 7-0 run to start the match, then ACU later went on a 6-0 run to tie the set at 12-12. The 'Cats went on an 8-0 to take a 21-17 lead, but after both times eclipsed the 25-point mark, the Redhawks went on a 4-1 run to take the third set.
ACU's .088 hitting percentage in the fourth set proved to haunt them. The Redhawks also went on a 9-1 run in the middle of the set to help give them the set and the match.
ACU finished the match hitting .200 with 49 kills and 43 assists, more than Seattle U for the match. What hurt the 'Cats were errors, finishing the match with 21 hitting errors, 14 service errors and 14 reception errors.
Alexis Strong led ACU with 14 kills all while hitting .367. Right behind her was Hannah Gonzalez with 11 kills on a team-best .381 hitting percentage while adding two blocks.
Bryley Steinhilber added another double-double with a team-best 15 digs and 10 kills. Rachel Koss had three blocks alongside 12 assists, while Madeline Guffy led the team with 23 assists.
Up next, the Wildcats will return home for three straight games. First, ACU will face off against Utah Tech for the second time this season. The two teams faced off to open conference play in St. George, Utah, where the 'Cats fell 3-0.
The game will take place, on Thursday, October 24 starting at 6 p.m. inside Moody Coliseum during Volley for a Cause Night, with the match also streaming live at ESPN+.
