SAN MARCOS – Abilene Christian fell in three sets in the opener of Bobcat Classic on Friday, falling to Southeastern Louisiana, 27-25, 25-17, 25-23.
Â
"SLU proved to be the better team today," said ACU Head Coach Ijeoma Moronu Alstrup. "Our side struggled to get going and we weren't able to get in control of the match. SLU played solid defense and our defensive effort didn't match up to our normal standard. We have two more opportunities tomorrow to play two tough matches and I look forward to seeing how we respond to this loss as a team."
Â
SLU rallied from down 24-20 to take the first set to take a 25-24 lead.
Ashli Edmiston got a kill to make it 25-25, but the Lions scored the next two points.
Â
Southeastern had a .300 attack percentage in the second game.
Â
In the final set, ACU trailed 20-12 but kept fighting and reduced the SLU lead to a single point three times after a 7-0 run. The Wildcats couldn't get the lead, however, and dropped to 5-3 on the season.
Â
Edmiston led the Cats with 10 kills with
Breanna Box adding nine.
Madeline Guffy had 31 assists.
Â
Guffy and
Sara Carrizales had two aces each. Guffy also was credited with eight digs and Carrizales seven.
Â
Braden Bossier was in on three blocks.
Â
ACU finishes the trip to San Marcos on Saturday with matches against California at 11 a.m. and Texas State at 4 p.m.
