BELLEVUE, Wash. – Freshman
Maddox Miesse led the offense with three hits, but that was the lone bright spot for Abilene Christian in a 16-6 defeat in eight innings to Seattle U on Friday night. The Wildcats (32-22, 15-14 WAC) and Redhawks (21-29, 17-12 WAC) were tied up at 5-5 in the sixth inning, but Seattle U outscored its guests 11-1 over the next three innings to pull away for a run-rule victory. ACU drops the series in the Pacific Northwest but looks to salvage game three of the series on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.
WAC Standings Implication
- The Wildcats now drop to 15-14 in league play to sit in seventh place in the standings, and will await the remainder of the Friday schedule to determine where they sit heading into the final day of the regular season.
How It Happened
- Miesse began the scoring with an RBI-single into center to plate
Tanner Tweedt, and ACU led 1-0 after two.
- Seattle U tied it with a single and used a bases-clearing double to score three to grab a 4-1 advantage.
- The 'Cats stormed back in the fifth, erasing the 4-1 deficit and turning it into a 5-4 lead. Miesse came in to score on a wild pitch, then
Logan Britt brought home
Jack Nielsen with an infield single. Parke scored on a wild pitch moments later, and
Garrett Williams scored Britt with a single up the middle. ACU put together a four-run, three-hit inning, sending eight to the plate.
- The Redhawks tied it in the home fifth, then erupted for five in the sixth to go up 10-5. A balk scored
Holden Rook in the top of the seventh inning to make it 10-6, then Seattle U scored four in the home seventh to lead 14-6. Two more scored in the eighth and the Redhawks ended the game via the run-rule.
