ABILENE – Abilene Christian dropped a 2-1 decision to Seattle on Thursday, losing on a second-half penalty kick.
Â
Seattle took a lead in the first half on a goal by Kaylee Coatney in the 31st minute and held a 1-0 lead at intermission.
Â
Jillian Beck got the equalizer, heading in a corner kick from
Taylor Denn, to make it 1-1 in the 57th minute.
Â
Four minutes later a rare yellow card was called on
Savanna Alba as the ACU keeper collided with a Seattle forward. SU was awarded a penalty kick and Kait Raffensperger put the ball just out of reach of Alba for the eventual game-winner.
Â
"I like the way we handled the adversity of being down 1-0," said ACU Head Coach Stephen Salas. "Just unfortunate with the penalty kick. We're coming together at the right time. We'll fix our mistakes. Excited for the next game."
Â
The ACU defense and patient Seattle offense saw both teams stay below double figures in the shots column.
Chayse Thorn and
Peyton Hill had shots on goal for the Wildcats.
Â
Alba had one save.
The Wildcats are back on the home pitch Sunday at 11 a.m., taking on Utah Valley.
