CEDAR CITY, Utah – Abilene Christian fell 3-2 at Southern Utah on Thursday on the first leg of its Utah road trip.
The Thunderbirds scored first in the 14th minute with a goal by Mayu Yamamoto but
Chayse Thorn answered with her 13th goal of the season. She played in a pass from
Baylie Simon in the 18th minute to make it 1-1.
Steph Roper gave SUU a 2-1 lead in the 58th minute but ACU answered with a goal by
Jordan Michie with an assist from
Georgia Guenther.
Ashley Rivera got the heart-breaker in the 85th minute.
"It was good for us to battle back twice to tie the game and to do so on the road," said ACH Head Coach Stephen Salas. "We hit the post a couple of times and almost found the game-tying goal in the final minutes. We needed to focus more on valuing our chances and we are building on that. A tough loss but we will respond."
Lili Ross had seven saves in taking the loss for ACU.
The Wildcats got five shots on goal for the day, led by Thorn and Michie with two each.
Hannah Martin had one.
Now 7-7-1 overall and 2-4 in the WAC, ACU plays Utah Tech in St. George on Sunday at 11 a.m., Central time.
