ABILENE – Abilene Christian captured a 2-1 conference win Sunday over Tarleton State to cap off Seniors-Alumni weekend.
The Wildcats moved to 4-0 at home this season and showed the alumni the improvements from last season when ACU had a winless WAC season.
ACU got out to a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute when
Chayse Thorn took a pass from
Emma Nylund and moved into position for her 12th goal of the season.
Tarleton State got a goal from Avery Harr in the 14th minute, which stood as TSU's only shot on goal for the evening.
Amelia Leggett scored her third goal of the season in the 37th minute for the game-winner.
Savanna Alba got the win in goal.
"Every game in the WAC is tough and we had to grind this one out," said ACU Head Coach Stephen Salas. "We're undefeated in the (home) purple, which is good."
The win capped a weekend of celebrating four seniors and honoring returning alumni.
The Wildcats had eight shots on the night and four shots on goal. Leggett put two shots on frame with Nylund and Thorn getting one each.
"I've coached some of these alumni for the past six years," said Salas, who formerly was an assistant at ACU. "It was good for the alumni to see what the girls are doing on the field and I think both sides are proud of each other."
Prior to the game, ACU honored
Jordan Michie,
Hannah Gage,
Jazilyn Torres and
Lily Foster.
With the win, the Cats improved to 2-1 in the WAC and 7-4-1 overall.
ACU hosts Seattle University in the Pink Match at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
