ABILENE – Abilene Christian continues its home season on Saturday with a pair of matches, taking on Trinity at 10 a.m. and Lubbock Christian at 3 p.m.
The Wildcats come in at 1-2 after a 6-1 loss at Texas Tech. Freshmen
Olivia Sears and
Maria Cascos have had the most success in the early stage of the season. Sears is 2-0 at No. 3 singles, including the win at Texas Tech and the match-clinching victory over UTSA. Cascos is 1-1 at No. 5 singles and she and doubles partner
Maryjoe Crisologo are 1-1 at No. 2 doubles.
ACU and Trinity haven't met since 2015 when the Cats won 6-1. ACU is 3-0 in the series. The Tigers are the No. 16 team in Division III and open the season on Friday at Hardin-Simmons. Cate Cushing and Trinity Levy are ranked 16
th and Ruth Hill and Olivia Kim 25
th in DIII doubles. Levy is ranked 28
th and Hill 45
th in singles.
Lubbock Christian and ACU will be meeting for the first time on Saturday. The Chaps begin their spring season on Saturday. Anastas Khrustaleva was 8-2 over the fall, including a 4-0 mark in No. 1 singles. Axelle Jacquemin went 4-0 in No. 2 singles last semester. Those two paired up for five doubles wins, including a 4-0 mark at No. 1 doubles.
ACU follows up Saturday's action with a trip to Wichita State next Friday with a stop off at Oral Roberts at noon on Feb. 4.
