ABILENE, Texas – ACU head track and field coach
Jerrod Cook was announced last week as one of seven individuals who will go into the 2022 McMurry Hall of Honor. Cook, who is entering his third season at the helm of the ACU program following a lengthy tenure as an assistant coach, will be officially enshrined on October 1 at McMurry's Radford Auditorium.Â
Â
"I am extremely honored to be inducted into the McMurry Hall of Honor. I would not trade anything for the time I spent at McMurry and the impact the coaches and teammates have had on my life," Cook said. "The Lord has truly led me on an incredible journey, and I am blessed for the time I had at McMurry and how it has helped shape the next steps of my life."
Â
During his time as a Warhawk student-athlete, Cook was a seven-time national qualifier in the indoor weight throw and outdoor hammer. In 2003, he was a NCAA Division III All-America selection for his performance in the indoor weight throw, and he won five conference titles throwing the hammer and the javelin. His throw of 59-5.00 set the school's record in the weight throw, while his mark of 188-11 is still the program record for the hammer.
Â
Most recently, Cook's Wildcats sent two student-athletes to the NCAA National Championships in the spring of 2022, with both finishing the event on the podium to give ACU the first two All-Americans in the Division I era. WAC Field Athlete of the Year
Annina Brandenburg set a new program record to come away with 8th place in the shot put, while decathlete J.J. Ply turned in a career performance to put the finishing touches on a stellar season.Â

In the weeks leading up to the ceremony, mcmurrysports.com will produce bios for each inductee. For more information on the event, contact McMurry Athletics at 325-793-4631.
