Nathan Carr named Assistant AD for Academics

ABILENE, Texas – The ACU Department of Athletics has announced the addition of Nathan Carr to the staff as Assistant Athletics Director for Academics. Carr will serve on the Executive Staff while overseeing all academics and will work directly with the Wildcat basketball, tennis and golf programs.

Carr brings a wealth of experience to the Big Country, including the last year at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, where he served as the Student-Athlete Academic and Engagement Coordinator. In this role, Carr's duties included tracking academic progress rates and graduation rates, organizing and monitoring all community service activities, facilitating all NIL programming, and assisting with the admission process.

"I would like to thank [Vice President for Athletics] Zack Lassiter and the hiring committee for their hospitality and support they have shown me. Over the years, I have learned that a strong academic support team can make a huge difference in athlete success, and ACU has just that," Carr said. "I look forward to working with the coaches, student-athletes and student services team to help support the department's mission and help our students reach their full potential."

During his time in Corpus, Carr also served as a first-year seminar instructor, lecturing on topics that included resumé writing, career networking and interview prep and working in conjunction with student-athlete NIL outcomes designated by the state. A former student-athlete, Carr's other experience includes coaching cross country and track at various places before sliding into academics full time.

From 2015 to 2020, Carr held the position of Athletic Academic Coordinator at Arkansas State University, where he managed all academic responsibilities of more than 150 student-athletes, created individualized academic service plan for each, and facilitated all university requirements specific to international student-athletes. Additionally, he assisted and advised student-athletes during the pre-registration process, organized sports award nominations, and supervised graduate assistants.

Carr is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where he received his Bachelor's of Science in Health and Exercise Science in 2013 before later earning his Master's of Science in Sports Management and Marketing in 2017.
