HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The ACU baseball team was tripped up on Friday night, falling 6-5 in 12 innings against the Bearkats of Sam Houston. The Wildcats and Bearkats have now both picked up a win in the series, turning Saturday's regular season finale into a rubber match.
How It Happened
-
Tanner Tweedt opened the scoring in the first frame, plating
Grayson Tatrow from third with an early single up the middle.
- Sam Houston answered with three hits in the home half to take a 2-1 lead, but
Bryson Hill homered on the eighth pitch of his at-bat in the fourth to pull ACU even.
- The two teams swapped zeroes until the top of the tenth, when Tatrow singled home a pair of runs to put the Wildcats back on top. Tweedt lifted a fly ball to right that was deep enough to again score Tatrow, giving the Purple and White a three-run lead.
- Four extra-base hits from the Bearkat offense again tied the game at 5-5, forcing the game to an 11th inning.
- A bases-loaded, two-out balk in the bottom of the 12th gave the Bearkats their first win of the series.
Stat Pack
- Tatrow came away with three hits on Friday night, and he now has five RBI for the series.
- Wildcat starter Genner Cervantes went five innings, scattering six hits and allowing two earned runs before giving way to the bullpen.
- Carter Sells overcame a pair walks and a lone hit to provide back-to-back scoreless frames, and Tanner Riley struck out six Sam Houston hitters in three innings of work.
- Adam Byrd took the hard-luck loss for ACU after recording four strikeouts in seven batters.
Beyond the Box Score
- Tatrow has now recorded six games with at least three hits, while Mitchell Dickson leads the team in that category with nine.
- Hill has reached base safely in 15 consecutive games, his best mark of the season.
