ACU Baseball turns focus to WAC Tournament following Sam Houston series

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The ACU baseball team dropped the regular season finale on Saturday, falling 5-4 to Sam Houston on the road. The Wildcats have secured their spot in the postseason and will now prepare for their first-ever Western Athletic Conference Tournament.

How It Happened
-        The Bearkats started the scoring in the home third, when an extra-base hit plated the first run of the game all the way from first.
-        ACU's offense came to life in the sixth, as Bryson Hill lifted a ball over the wall in left-center to put the Purple and White in front 3-1.
-        Alexei Cazarin drew a based-loaded walk in the top of the eighth to push it to a 4-1 Wildcat lead, but Sam Houston came away with four hits in the bottom half to tie the game.
-        SHSU centerfielder Lane Brewster strolled to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the ninth, singling home the winning run in walk-off fashion.

Stat Pack
  • Adam Stephenson delivered a strong start on the mound, scattering five hits and just one earned run over 6.2 innings of work.
