‘Cats sweep ‘Lopes for another key WAC win

ABILENE, Texas – The ACU men's tennis team picked up another Western Athletic Conference win on Friday afternoon, sweeping Grand Canyon 7-0 to extend the win streak to three matches. The Purple and White have now swept five matches and are 5-1 on their home courts this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Wildcats won all three doubles matches, with the duo of Savan Chhabra and Cesar Barranquero clinching the first point of the day from the second flight. 
  • Dario Kmet made it a 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-2 singles win on Court 2, and Barranquero, the reigning WAC Singles Player of the Week, extended the ACU edge to 3-0 with a 7-5, 6-2 victory in the fifth flight.
  • Tyler Stewart clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory on Court 3, giving the Wildcats their third home victory in a week. 
  • Oswaldo Cano followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win on Court 6, and Chhabra increased the lead to 6-0 with a close win on Court 4. 
  • Daniel Morozov forced a decisive third set before closing out the day with a 6-3 victory in the top flight.  
 
UP NEXT: 
  • The Wildcats close out the regular season on Sunday, when they host New Mexico State at 11:00 a.m. Sunday will be pivotal for seeding in the WAC Tournament, as NMSU enters unbeaten in league play, while ACU has just one loss.
