ACU men knock off NMSU, clinch two-seed in conference tourney

ABILENE, Texas – The Abilene Christian men's tennis team defeated New Mexico State 6-1 on Sunday afternoon, clinching the two-seed in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament in the process. The Wildcats have now won four matches in nine days, outscoring opponents 24-4 in that span.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The day began with the Wildcats sweeping doubles action for the second time this weekend, with the duo of Savan Chhabra and Jose Maria Rastrojo picking up the first point of the afternoon. 
  • Reigning WAC Singles Player of the Week Cesar Barranquero picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win on Court 5 to start singles action, and Tyler Stewart followed with a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the third flight to put ACU on the brink of their fourth and clinching point.
  • Dario Kmet earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory on Court 2 to officially win the match for the Purple and White, while Daniel Morozov and Oswaldo Cano added wins in the first and sixth flight respectively.  
 
UP NEXT: 
  • The Wildcats now turn their attention to their first-ever WAC Tournament, which is set to begin on April 22 in Beaumont. ACU will receive a first-round bye before taking on the winner of three-seed NMSU and six-seed Chicago State at 9:00 a.m. on April 23.
