ABILENE, Texas – Abilene Christian softball sent their seniors out in style on Saturday afternoon as they earned the 7-3 win over Sam Houston completing the weekend sweep.
Sidney Holman-Mansell pitched another solid game for the Wildcats,
Calie Burris drew two walks and secured the game-winning out, and ACU moved to 13-8 in conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a scoreless first inning, it was the Bearkats who were on the board first with a solo homerun in the top of the second inning.
- The Wildcats would answer in the bottom of the second when Logan Gaspar hit a ground-rule double to bring home Miranda Davila and Avery Miloch, taking the 2-1 lead.
- ACU would add two more runs in the fourth inning, Davila scored on a sacrifice fly by Matti Reiling and Miloch scored on the attempt to throw a runner out at second.
- Calie Burris would earn an RBI after drawing a bases-loaded walk to put the Wildcats up 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
- ACU would take a 7-1 lead after back-to-back RBIs from Riley White and Sydney Kaiser in the bottom of the sixth.
- Sam Houston would plate two runs in the top of the seventh before a diving play by Burris secured the final out and the win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Calie Burris drew two walks in the game which no puts her in a tie for the most career walks drawn with 62.
- Logan Gaspar recorded another multi-hit game, she now has two on the season both coming in this series.
- Mercedes Eichelberger now has 49 hits on the season, the most for a Wildcat in a season since 2017.
ON DECK:
- The Wildcats will have next weekend off before closing out the regular season at SFA May 6-7.
