ACU finishes off sweep of Marist, hosts Baylor on Wednesday

ABILENE, Texas – The ACU baseball team came up with a 10-8 victory on Sunday afternoon to finish off a three-game sweep of Marist College, giving the Wildcats six straight wins at Crutcher Scott Field. The Purple and White will look to keep the momentum rolling on Wednesday, when they welcome Big XII opponent Baylor to Abilene for the first time in program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • ACU started the scoring in the home first, as leadoff man Mitchell Dickson came in to score on a Colton Eager sac fly.
  • The Wildcats found themselves on the wrong end of a six-run top of the second but responded in a big way to retake the lead.
  • Hunter Gieser opened the home second with a solo home run, and after Miller Ladusau drew a walk, Grayson Tatrow went the other way, wrapping a two-run long ball around the left field pole to make it a 6-4 game.
  • A bases loaded hit by pitch and an RBI groundout tied the game, and Ladusau singled home a pair of runs to put ACU in front 8-6.
  • The Red Foxes got a run back with two doubles in the third, but the Wildcats again answered, doing so with an RBI single to left off the bat of Bash Randle
  • Tanner Tweedt picked up ACU's final RBI of the afternoon with a sixth inning single through the right side, allowing Eager to score from second without a throw.

STAT PACK:
  • Four Wildcat hitters (Randle, Eager, Gieser, Bender) each recorded a multi-hit afternoon.
  • Max Huffling picked up the win in relief for the Purple and White after striking out three Marist hitters over his three innings of work.
  • Adam Byrd tallied his first save of the season, shutting the door with back-to-back perfect innings.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • ACU totaled 13 home runs for the series, outscoring the Red Foxes 42-11 for the weekend.
  • Eager has hit safely in all 11 games this season, and he is now just five shy of his best stretch from 2021.

UP NEXT:
  • The Wildcats are set to host Baylor on Wednesday, with first pitch from Crutcher Scott Field set for 6:05 p.m. Tickets are just $10, while children three and under are free, and all ACU faculty, staff and students will be granted free admission.
