Wildcats notch program-high 22 steals in rout of Lamar

ABILENE, Texas — A dominant defensive performance led the Wildcats to a 77-42 victory over Lamar on Thursday night. Abilene Christian forced 37 turnovers and had 22 steals as they put together one of their most complete performances of the season.  

Key Plays
  • The Wildcats tallied a steal on each of the first three offensive possessions for Lamar. Airion Simmons notched two with Tobias Cameron getting one and taking it for a fastbreak dunk.
  • Ja'Sean Jackson got a steal and a layup on the other end that opened up an 11-1 lead just five minutes into the game.
  • A Reggie Miller layup gave the Wildcats a 22-1 lead at the 10:18 mark of the first half.
  • The Cardinals got their first field goal at the 9:38 mark, a three from C.J. Roberts.
  • Damien Daniels found Cameron Steele for a dunk to put the Wildcats up 24 with just under a minute to play in the first half.
  • Steele hit a three to push the Wildcats lead to 28 five minutes into the second half.
  • Simmons grabbed an offensive board and was rewarded after Daniels found him on the wing for a three to put ACU up by 33.

  • Both the 37 forced turnovers and the 22 steals by the Wildcats are program records.
  • Coryon Mason surpassed 1,000 career points at the NCAA level. Mason played one year at the DII level for Northeastern State before his three seasons with the Wildcats.
  • Reggie Miller moved into fifth all-time for career steals with two in the game, he is now at 136.
  • Damien Daniels had five steals on the night and is just seven steals away from moving into third on the all-time steals list.
  • The 42 points allowed was the second lowest opponent points total of the season for ACU, they allowed just 41 points to Howard Payne.
  • Cameron Steele led the Wildcats with 16 points and five rebounds on the night, Immanuel Allen was also in double figures with 10 points.

ACU will head on the road for the final time in the regular season this Saturday. The team will make their way to Nacogdoches looking for the season split with SFA. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. tip at Johnson Coliseum.
