ABILENE – The ACU baseball team dropped both games of the doubleheader Saturday at Crutcher Scott Field to 2021 NCAA Regional qualifier North Dakota State, falling 7-4 in game one and 4-0 in game two. The Wildcats (1-2) held an early lead in the opener, but two big middle innings for the Bison put them ahead for good. The visitors were then able to limit the ACU offense in the seven-inning game.
Brett Hammit was a huge highlight for the Wildcats, launching ACU's first home run of the year in game one.
How It Happened
- Hammit launched a two-run shot to left field, getting absolutely all of it to put the 'Cats in front in the second inning.
- NDSU scored three in the fourth and three in the fifth to pull ahead 6-2, and ACU would play catch-up. Starter
Breck Eichelberger was pulled in the fifth inning after tossing 4.1 frames.
- Trailing 6-2 in the fifth,
Hunter Gieser drew a bases-loaded walk to pull a run closer.
- NDSU scored one in the eighth to go up 7-3.

Aaron Staehely got his first at-bat of his ACU career in the home eighth, and singled through the right side to score
Miller Ladusau. ACU ultimately fell 7-4.
- Game two saw the Bison score one run in the second, fourth, sixth, and seventh innings to win 4-0.
Stat Pack
- Hammit led the way with a three-hit day, including the two-run bomb, and he scored a run as well.

Bash Randle ended his day with a pair of hits, and some ridiculous plays at shortstop.

Grayson Tatrow and
Colton Eager each tallied a pair of hits as well.
- Eichelberger took the loss in game one, tossing 4.1 innings and allowing five earned on eight hits.

Adam Stephenson took the loss in game two, despite giving up just two earned on four hits in 3.1 innings with eight strikeouts.

Garrett Egli and
Sam Grace saw time in the opener, with Grace pitching two scoreless frames.

Drake Boggan,
Sam Berberich, and
Connor Carlton combined to throw 3.2 out of the 'pen, allowing two earned.
Beyond the Box Score
- Eager and Hammit lead the team with a .400 average through three games, each hitting 4-for-10 with two RBI each.
