ABILENE – The Wildcats are 1-1 on their young season but will look to make it 2-0 at home as they host crosstown rival McMurry on Tuesday night in Moody Coliseum. ACU is fresh off a tough road game at Texas A&M where they were down just five at the half, but ultimately fell 77-58 to a now-ranked Aggies team. The team will look to bounce back in front of another great crowd at home tomorrow night.

ACU STORYLINES

  • DEFENDING THE DEEP BALL | As a team, the Wildcats are holding opponents to just 22.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Opponents have hit just eight total threes through two games while ACU has 16 made threes on a 34.8% mark. 
  • SIMMONS LOOKS SOLID ON THE ROAD | Airion Simmons led the Wildcats with 15 points, all coming in the second half, on the road against Texas A&M. The senior went 4-5 from deep, grabbed three rebounds and had two assists. 
  • WILDCATS OPEN MOODY WITH A WIN | The Wildcats opened the 22-23 season with a win over Jackson State in the newly renovated Moody Coliseum. In front of a crowd of nearly 2,500 people ACU jumped out to a 20-point halftime lead behind a hot shooting start and a stifling defense. The team had to fend off a furious comeback attempt by the Tigers as the Wildcats struggled to find their offense in the second half, but came away with a 65-56 victory to start the season 1-0.
  • CAMERON GOES FOR A CAREER-HIGH | Tobias Cameron was a bright spot for the Wildcats on opening night as he dropped 18 points to match a career-high in scoring that included going 4-7 from deep. He also grabbed six boards and had two blocked shots in a stellar performance to open his final season in Abilene.
  • PLEASANT SIDELINED WITH INJURY | March Madness hero and grad transfer Joe Pleasant will be on the sidelines for his first few games back with the Wildcats while he deals with a lingering injury. The grad transfer has been practicing the last few days and could make his season debut against McMurry. 
  • DANIELS, CAMERON EYE 100 CAREER WINS | With the Wildcats putting together four-consecutive 20-win seasons, both Damien Daniels and Tobias Cameron are nearing 100 career wins. The win over Jackson State put the pair at 97 wins with the 'Cats.

SCOUTING MCMURRY (0-2, 0-0 ASC)

  • The Warhawks are off to an 0-2 start with home losses against Schreiner and Texas Lutheran to open the season. Despite the two losses, the team has been competitive early, falling by two points to Schreiner and losing in overtime to TLU. 
  • Remy Minor leads the team in scoring at 18 points per game and is shooting over 50 percent from the field. he had a season-high 21 points in the loss to Schreiner. 
  • Junior C.J. LeBlanc led the Warhawks in scoring last season when these two programs met. He was the lone double-digit scorer for McMurry with 13 points and is averaging 16 points per game coming into this contest.
