ABILENE— The Wildcats split a pair of matches on Saturday to close out the Wildcat Classic. The team dropped a match to Green Bay to start the day before closing the night out strong with a sweep of Texas Southern. Three Wildcats hit career marks in the nightcap and ACU moved to 3-3 on the season.

The Wildcats played a tight first set with Green Bay but found themselves down 22-18 late. The team rattled off five straight points to take the 24-22 lead, but the Phoenix scored the final four points to earn the 26-24 win. The momentum carried over to set two for Green Bay as they held a 22-12 lead in set two before the Wildcats went on an 8-2 run cutting the lead to four, but the lead was too much to overcome as ACU fell 20-25. In another close set the teams traded points, but Green Bay capitalized on ACU errors to earn the sweep.

ACU bounced back on Saturday night for a sweep of the Tigers behind strong performances from both of their middle blockers.
Braden Bossier went for two career-highs, 13 kills and a .722 hitting percentage, while
Breanna Box had nine kills on a career-high .571 hitting percentage. The Wildcats battled off a couple of late runs in sets two and three from TSU behind a solid defensive effort.
Madison Lawler led the way with 15 digs on the night while
Lindsey Toney and
Emily Van Dyke each added nine digs of their own.
News and Notes
- Birkel led the way for the Wildcats in the first match with another efficient hitting performance with eight kills on a .350 hitting percentage. She went on to hit .438, a career-high, in the match against TSU.
- ACU had their best blocking performance of the season so far with nine total blocks against Green Bay.
- Bossier surpassed the double-digit kill mark for the first time in her career.
- Lawler totaled 30 digs over six sets of action on the day.
- The .374 team hitting percentage against TSU was the Wildcats' best in their DI history, surpassing their .326 hitting effort against Lamar in 2019.
- After hitting .390 over three matches on the weekend, Jada Birkel was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Wildcats head on the road for the first time this season when they travel to Denton, Texas to play in the North Texas Invite. The Wildcats will play Montana State at 1 p.m. Sept. 10.
