ACU XC dominates Naimadu Classic

ABILENE – The ACU cross country teams hosted the lone home meet of the season on Saturday, with both Wildcat programs showing out and earning first place team finishes.

INSIDE THE MEET:
Location: ACU Cross Country Course | Abilene, Texas
Race Length: Men 8K | Women 6.2 K
Results

QUOTABLE:
"Overall, we came out and competed really well for our first full races of the season, and it was good to come out at home and get wins on both sides. The women ran really well, despite taking a wrong turn & adding a loop to the race. If we can close the gap between four and five, we're right where we want to be. The men's pack was solid. We had some good performances, but we need to continue to tighten our pack up front & progress that pack faster." – head coach Jarvis Jelen

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The ACU men claimed six of the top ten individual spots, with Levi Chambers' time of 25:26.8 leading the pack for a 5th-place finish.
  • Kevin Kipkosgei (25:40.1, 6th place), Maxwel Kiplagat (25:46.4, 7th place) and Denis Lagat (25:50.6, 8th place) were the next three Wildcat finishers, while O'Brien Verdin (25:52.3, 9th place) and Cooper Goggans (26:01.0, 10th place) rounded out the top ten.
  • Gabe Embree finished the day in 13th place with a time of 26:17.6, giving the Wildcats a total score of 35 with their top seven finishers.
  • On the women's side, the Wildcats were even more dominant, with Irene Rono (21:52.1, 1st), Prudence Kiyeng (22:33.4, 2nd) Briahna Gerlach (22:49.3, 3rd) and Tessa Holderman (23:00.6, 4th) taking the top four spots respectively.
  • Sarah Wagler (23:25.2, 8th) and Grace White (23:25.7, 9th) gave ACU two more top ten finishes to boost the team scoring.

UP NEXT:
  • The Wildcats return to the course for their third meet of the year on Oct. 2, when they head to San Antonio for the UIW Invitational.
