'Cats eye second straight win, welcome unbeaten UTPB on Saturday

ABILENE - After routing Louisiana College 62-7 in Saturday night's home opener, Abilene Christian is set to host the University of Texas Permian Basin this week at Wildcat Stadium. The meeting will be the first between the two teams. 
 
The Wildcats will host their annual Family Weekend and will honor the 2021 senior class prior to kickoff.

ACU 
-        Quarterback Stone Earle was automatic last week, completing 18 of his 19 pass attempts for six touchdowns and 233 yards. He finished his big night one touchdown pass shy of tying the school record, and he was the first ACU quarterback with five passing scores in a game since 2017.
-        Four different receivers caught a scoring pass from Earle, with Kobe Clark hauling in two of the six. Clark eclipsed 150 career receptions with his first catch of the second half, and the tandem has now connected for three scores in just two games. 
-        Three different running backs found their way into the endzone on Saturday, as ACU cleared 200 yards on the ground for the first time since October 26, 2019, when the Wildcats defeated Nicholls State 37-31. 
-        Ryan Stapp led the way defensively in the home opener, picking up five solo tackles and assisting on two more. 
-        Saturday marked the first time ACU has scored 60+ points since an early 2019 matchup against Arizona Christian. The Wildcats defeated the Firestorm 66-14 at Wildcat Stadium. 
 
UTPB
-        The Falcons enter play this week with an unblemished 2-0 record after defeating Southwest Baptist in the season opener and upsetting West Texas A&M in last week's Lone Star Conference opener in Odessa. 
-        Quarterback Clayton Roberts has been tremendous for UTPB thus far, tossing for 525 yards and eight scores without an interception. He is also the only player on the team with a rushing touchdown, taking advantage of a 45-yard play that nearly ended in a sack. 
-        Nathan Tilford has served as the Falcons' lead back to date, averaging 5.1 yards per carry on 34 attempts. 
-        UTPB has been consistent in the open field, with five players already claiming 10 or more tackles on the young season.
