Jones strikes in season opener at NM State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Junior Natalie Jones scored the first goal of the 2021 season for ACU, but the Wildcats fell in overtime to the New Mexico State Aggies Thursday night, 2-1. It was a defensive battle most of the night, and after a scoreless first half, each side traded scores in the final 45. The Aggies then scored two minutes into overtime to win it in the first night game at NM State since 2011.

The Goals
- 68' | NM State's Xitlaly Hernandez scored off a pair of deflections off a corner kick.
- 77' | A brilliant sequence from Christina Arteaga got the ball to Natalie Jones in the middle of the field, and the junior found enough space in the middle of the box to slide one through the left side of the net to even the match, 1-1.
- 92' | NM State's Corey Kizer scored off a deflection to give the Aggies a 2-1 win.

The Numbers
- Jones' goal was ACU's first shot attempt of the night.
- NM State led 12-2 in shot attempts and 7-2 in shots on goal.
- Lily Foster had five saves in her collegiate debut.
- Arteaga and Jones had the two shot attempts for ACU.
