ABILENE – Head women's soccer coach Casey Wilson has signed a contract extension, keeping him with the program he started in 2007 all the way through the 2025 season. Wilson has built a constant power at ACU, and just completed his 14th season with the program he built from scratch, and has a remarkable 157-98-23 record. The contract keeps him on the sideline at Elmer Gray Stadium for the next five seasons.
"I have always enjoyed being at ACU in my different capacities of coaching here since 2002," said Wilson. "I love this soccer program, the people I work with, as well as the quality young ladies we coach and mentor each day."
Wilson is the architect of a women's soccer team that has more than proved its worth at both the NCAA Division I and II levels. Shortly before the school announced its intentions to move into the DI ranks of the Southland Conference, Wilson guided a four-year old program to its first Lone Star Conference Championship and first of two appearances at the NCAA Championship. Then in 2011, the team reached the heights of its DII prowess by winning 20 matches en route to reaching the national quarterfinals.
In the eight years at the DI level, soccer has not had a losing season. After third-place finishes in 2015 and 2016 during the four-year ban, the 2017 group played in the first Southland Conference Tournament for the program. And then it all came together in the fall of 2018. ACU finished fourth in the regular season, but ran through the Southland Tournament and won the championship to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the very first time.
2019 and 2020-21 brought more top-three finishes in the league, marking an incredible run that has seen ACU's record be good enough to qualify for the Southland Tournament all eight years. Even though the program was ineligible for the postseason from 2013-16, the record was good enough to have qualified if eligible. It's one of the most consistent programs in all of soccer.
And now as the program shifts into a new era when it joins the Western Athletic Conference in the summer, Wilson remains the perfect match for ACU to continue to build on what they have built.
"Casey is very deserving of his contract extension," said Athletics Director Allen Ward. "ACU women's soccer is one of our top programs and a regular contender for the conference championship each season. I am confident their success will continue as we transition to the WAC. Casey not only recruits outstanding athletes, but also is committed to their academic achievement as well. It is a pleasure working with Coach Wilson and I know our future is bright under his leadership."
It's a program with outstanding players, outstanding people, and a great coach. And he is sticking around. And that's a great thing.
