Wildcats host UIW for Senior Day

ABILENE, Texas –  ACU will close out their regular season on Saturday afternoon with a home game against the Cardinals of UIW. The Wildcats will look for the season sweep of UIW after getting the 75-67 win in San Antonio at the end of January. The team is coming off the buzzer-beating win at SFA on Wednesday night that kept their hopes alive for a top-two seed in Katy.

SERIES HISTORY

The Cardinals hold the 12-9 series lead, but it's the Wildcats who have dominated the series of late. ACU has won the last seven meetings, with the last two games coming down to the wire in San Antonio. ACU earned the eight-point win in January and going back to last season won an overtime game in their final meeting of the season. 

ACU STORYLINES

  • The Wildcats kept their top-two seed hopes alive with a win at SFA on Wednesday night. They will need SFA to win at Sam Houston on Saturday to get the triple-bye.
  • With the win on Wednesday night, the Wildcats secured their third-straight 20-win season. This is the first time in the team's 100-year history that they have accomplished that feat.
  • Kolton Kohl continues to lead the team in scoring at 12.1 per game. Both Coryon Mason (10.8) and Joe Pleasant (10.7) are averaging double figures as well. The team has eight players who are averaging at least five points per game.
  • The last time the Wildcats faced UIW they lost the turnover battle, 11-9, but still came away with the win down the stretch. 
  • The Wildcats will honor two student managers, Jacoby Johnson and Alex Hampton, as well as their five senior players, Mahki Morris, Reggie Miller, Coryon Mason, Paul Hiepler, and Kolton Kohl, in their senior day ceremony tomorrow. 

SCOUTING UIW (8-12, 5-8 SLC)

  • Keaston Willis is leading the way for the Cardinals with 18.9 points per game on the season, the second-leading scorer in the Southland.
  • UIW holds the third-best scoring defense in the Southland behind ACU and Sam Houston. They are holding teams to 70.7 points per game. 
  • The team is the second-best three-point shooting team in the Southland connecting on 38 percent of their attempts from deep. 
  • The Cardinals are coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
