Volleyball readies for conference tournament

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –  ACU finished the season with a 6-6 record in conference play and secured the seventh seed in the Southland Conference tournament. The Wildcats will begin tournament play on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. when they face the Sugar Bears of Central Arkansas. 

This will be a return to the postseason for the Wildcats after they finished just outside of the top eight teams in 2019.

ACU STORYLINES

  • The Wildcats are led by Katelyn Mueller who was named to the All-Conference first team. She has over 200 kills on the season and is ranked fourth in the conference for kills per set. 
  • ACU is seventh in the conference for hitting percentage with the team hitting .181 on the year. 
  • Lindsey Toney will be key for the Wildcats on the right side. She has hit .227 on the season and has had four double-digit kill outings. 
  • This will be a tough test for a young team, as six of the players in the Wildcats' regular rotation are underclassmen who have not had postseason experience. 
  • Mackenzie Harris will be an important piece for the Wildcats as well, she leads the team in digs with 232 on the season. 

SCOUTING CENTRAL ARKANSAS (10-7, 8-4 SLC)

  • The Sugar Bears earned a 3-0 win over the Wildcats the last the two played, but all the sets were close with their largest win coming 25-18. 
  • UCA is hitting .212 as a team while holding opponents to a .180 hitting percentage on the season. 
  • Madi Bowles led UCA in the last match against ACU with 16 kills on a .424 hitting percentage. 
  • The Sugar Bears placed two players on the all-conference third team, Bailey Waddington and Emily Doss.
