MBB heads to SFA with a chance for the season sweep

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – ACU is coming off a tough loss in Conway on Saturday that dropped them to third in the conference standings at 11-2 overall. The team will look to rebound with a chance for a season sweep over the Lumberjacks. Since moving to DI, the Wildcats have not won in Johnson Coliseum and have never swept the 'Jacks in regular season play. The two teams played a tough first half in the Teague Center in January before the Wildcats pulled away midway through the second half and cruised to a 20-point win at home.

SERIES HISTORY

The Lumberjacks hold the all-time series record at 22-17, but have had a solid hold on the series since the Wildcats moved to DI and have a 7-3 record over the last 10 meetings. The Wildcats put together their most complete game against SFA in the DI-era in their first meeting this season, winning 82-62.

ACU STORYLINES

  • ACU had an uncharacteristic game at UCA on Saturday, giving up 84 points on 50.9 percent shooting to the Bears. The only time on the season they gave up more points was at Arkansas in December when the Razorbacks scored 85 points.
  • The Wildcats will need to replicate what they were able to do in the first meeting of the season to get a win in Nacogdoches. ACU forced 23 turnovers and held the nation's second-best shooting team to just 43 percent shooting from the floor.
  • Reggie Miller is coming off a career-high 11 assists at UCA which tied ACU's DI record for assists in a game. Jalen Little dished out 11 assists twice during his time at ACU.
  • ACU still has an outside chance to claim a top-two seed in the SLC tournament if they can win out and either Nicholls or Sam Houston suffers a loss on the week.

SCOUTING SFA (11-2, 15-4 SLC)

  • SFA dropped their second game of the season last Saturday as well when they fell in double overtime at Lamar.
  • Gavin Kensmil leads the 'Jacks with 15.7 points per game and is leading the conference in field goal percentage at 63 percent on the season. He has also earned two Player of the Week awards.
  • SFA has been an offensive juggernaut this season, the team is second in the country in field goal percentage, shooting almost 53 percent, and they are averaging over 82 points per game which is good for the 13th-best mark in the NCAA.
  • The team's 62 points in the game at the Teague Center were their lowest, by far, in a conference game this season.
