Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Hot start not enough for the Wildcats at AMCC

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas— The Wildcats got out to a great start on Saturday afternoon, taking the first set from the Islanders, but it would be Corpus who came away with the 3-1 win. After their solid opening set, ACU struggled with hitting errors and offensive efficiency which gave AMCC a solid second set win and the momentum moving forward. The Wildcats struggle to stop the Islanders' Faith Panhans, who earned 11 kills on a .733 hitting percentage from the setter position. AMCC earned a dominant third set win, but ACU was able to come back and make the fourth set competitive.

Katelyn Mueller was solid on offense for the Wildcats once again, but she just missed a double-double with 14 kills and 9 digs. Emily Van Dyke provided a great spark off the bench for ACU as she played in the final two sets and totaled seven kills. The team won the battle at the net 8-3 in total blocks but most of those came early as AMCC adjusted well to ACU's big block up front.

Scoring Summary
Set 1: 25-23
Set 2: 16-25
Set 3: 13-25
Set 4: 20-25

Mooney Said It
On struggling to execute: "We really struggled with our serve, pass game today. Corpus runs a quick offense and we knew going into the match we needed to serve well to keep them out of system and from running their fast offenses effectively. We did not put enough pressure on them from the service line. They served us very aggressively and we were out of system too much on our side of the net."

On getting solid contributions from young players: "Both Zoe and Emily came off the bench and made positive impacts for us at the net offensively. Even though we struggled as team today, it is always nice to see young players come in and produce. Both were physical and played aggressively."

On getting back in the gym to prepare for the next match: "We are disappointed in the performance we put out on the court this afternoon. We will get in the gym Monday and get to work, focusing on ourselves and our serve and pass. We will start targeting McNeese on Tuesday. In our current situation any SLC matchup will be a tough one."
