MBB looks for season sweep at UCA

Conway, Ark. – The Wildcats are coming off another instant classic against Sam Houston the moved them into sole possession of first place in the Southland. The team hopes to take that momentum into the Farris Center on Friday evening in a tough matchup with the Bears of Central Arkansas. ACU has played some tough games in Conway and their last trip there it took a few overtime heroics to earn the win. Now, the Wildcats are looking to secure a third-straight 20-win season and a season sweep of the Bears.

SERIES HISTORY

The Bears and Wildcats have played some entertaining games over the years, but ACU holds the 9-3 overall record. The Wildcats earned the sweep in 2019-20, but won the two games by six points combined. When the Bears came to the Teague Center in January, it was all ACU as they ran away with a 93-58 victory.  

ACU STORYLINES

  • The Wildcats played a tough game against the Bearkats on Wednesday but made big plays when they needed them most, ending the game on an 11-0 run.
  • Joe Pleasant is coming off a career night going 9-12 from the field for 24 points against Sam Houston.
  • ACU is in a position to earn the outright regular season Southland title if they can win out in their final three games. 
  • With their next win, the Wildcats will secure three-straight 20-win seasons for the first time in program history.
  • The Wildcats continue to be elite at sharing the ball, they have had nine games with 20-plus assists and rank eighth nationally for assists with 17.8 per game.

SCOUTING UCA (3-17, 2-10 SLC)

  • The Bears come into this game on a 10-game losing streak. Their last game out was an 88-63 loss at New Orleans.
  • Rylan Bergersen leads UCA in scoring, averaging 16.8 ppg on 44 percent shooting.
  • UCA is giving up over 81 points per game while struggling to score, averaging just 69.7 points per game.
  • Only three players on the Bears roster have appeared in all 20 of their games on the season.
