Wildcats to face former Southland foe UIW Saturday afternoon

ABILENE, Texas - After three games in a six-day stretch, the Wildcats are prepared to welcome the Cardinals of UIW to the Teague Center Saturday afternoon. A former Southland Conference rival and a soon to be WAC opponent, the two teams are well acquainted. The Wildcats earned wins in both meetings last season and are on an eight-game win streak against the Cardinals.

  • The Wildcats have earned three-straight wins over DIII opponents to open an eight-game homestand. 
  • Last season ACU went 13-0 in the Teague Center and have pushed that record to 16-0 in the temporary facility. 
  • Over the last three games, the Wildcats have been able to play 13 guys in each game with no player exceeding 20 minutes of action. 
  • Coryon Mason is leading the team averaging 13 points per game and shooting nearly 50 percent from the field. 
  • Through six games the Wildcats are leading the country in turnover margin (+11.3) and second in steals per game (13.2).

Scouting the Cardinals

  • UIW has had a tough start to the season with a 1-7 record including a loss to DIII Concordia (TX).
  • The Cardinals have five players averaging double-digit scoring including freshman Josh Morgan who is leading the way with 17.5 points per game. 
  • The team returned just eight of their 15 players from last year's roster. 
  • Johnny Hughes III is averaging 15.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
