MBB welcomes Drexel for Saturday night showdown

ABILENE, Texas - The Wildcats are primed to protect home court on Saturday as they welcome a tough Drexel team to the Teague Center. This will be the first time ACU has welcomed a non-conference NCAA Tournament team (from the previous year) to Abilene. The two teams previously met in the 2019-20 season in Philadelphia where the Dragons came away with the overtime victory.

ACU Storylines

  • Abilene Christian is off to the solid start at home with four-straight wins, including their dominant 98-65 win over UIW last Saturday. 
  • The Wildcats haven't played since last Saturday due to finals week. 
  • Coryon Mason currently leads the team in scoring averaging 12 points per game with Mahki Morris just behind him averaging 11.3 points per game. 
  • ACU continues to be one of the best defensive programs in the country currently ranked second in the NCAA for steals at 12.7 per game. The team also boasts the top turnover margin in country at +11.6 per game with the next team coming in at a +8.9. 
  • The Wildcats have shot over 50 percent in each of their last four games and put up their best three-point shooting game against UIW shooting 50 percent from deep. 

Scouting the Dragons

  • Drexel is 4-4 on the season playing a tough early schedule. The Dragons have losses at Syracuse, Princeton and went 1-2 at the Nassau Championship in the Bahamas. Their most impressive win was on the road at Saint Joseph's in early November. 
  • The Dragons are averaging 78 points per contest and have been efficient in scoring, ranked in the top-50 nationally for field goal percentage. 
  • James Butler leads the team in both scoring and rebounding, just missing a double-double average with 15.6 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. Butler totaled 13 points and 13 rebounds the last time these teams met. 
  • Camren Wynter averages 14.6 points per game for the Dragons and has scored in double figures in all but one game this season.
