Volleyball welcomes Sam Houston, SFA in final home weekend

ABILENE - ACU will host Sam Houston and SFA in their final home weekend of the year. The Bearkats are currently leading the Southwest Division and the Ladyjacks are a single game back in the standings. ACU has dropped their last four matches and is looking for some momentum to close out the season. With their final home match on Saturday, the Wildcats will honor seniors Lindsey Toney, Brittney Roberts, and Madison Lawler for Senior Day before the match.

ACU STORYLINES

  • The Wildcats are coming off a loss to Tarleton and are looking for some momentum to close out the season. They will have the tough test of hosting the top two teams in the Southwest Division this weekend.
  • Bryley Steinhilber is coming off of her best outing of her young career with a 16-kill, 11-dig performance against Tarleton last weekend. The freshman had a couple solid outings on the road against Sam Houston and SFA and could be primed for another solid weekend. 
  • Lindsey Toney ranks 14th in the country sitting at 4.57 kills per set. That mark is second in the WAC. 
  • Despite recent injury issues, Madison Rohre still sits at the top of the WAC with 10.13 assists per set. 
  • The Wildcats will honor seniors Lindsey Toney, Brittney Roberts, and Madison Lawler prior to their match against SFA on Saturday at 1 p.m.

SCOUTING THE BEARKATS

  • Sam Houston sits atop the Southwest Division standings at 8-2. They picked up a huge win in Phoenix during the WAC pod weekend, beating NMSU in four sets.
  • As a team, the Bearkats are averaging 17.92 digs per set which is good for 10th in the NCAA. Hannah Baker leads the team with 4.98 digs per set. 
  • Both Ashley Lewis and Breanne Chausse are averaging over three kills per set on the season with Chausse hitting at an impressive .220 clip from the right side. 
  • The Bearkats only Southwest Division loss came on the road at UTRGV. 

SCOUTING THE LADYJACKS

  • SFA has three conference losses on the year with all three coming from competition at the top of their respective divisional standings. They fell to Sam Houston, GCU, and NMSU. 
  • The Ladyjacks are ranked 22nd in the country for blocks per set, averaging 2.62, and are coming off a 22-block outing in a four-set win over UTRGV. 
  • The team has six players with 100-plus kills on the season and are led by Leah Powell with 188 kills, averaging 2.62 per set. 
  • They also have three players averaging over one block per set, led by Taya Mitchell with 87 total blocks and 1.21 per set.
