Wildcats prepare for final road game of 2021 campaign

ABILENE – The ACU football team is back in action this week, heading to northeast Alabama to take on Jacksonville State in the final road game of the season. Saturday will mark the first-ever meeting between the two teams, and Alabama will become the third different state in which Abilene Christian has played this fall.

Abilene Christian (4-4, 1-3 WAC/ASUN Challenge)
- Blair Zepeda was named the WAC Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday after connecting on both field goals and recording three touchbacks on kickoffs last Saturday. His 52-yarder on the opening drive was a new career-long, surpassing his previous best by one yard.
- After back-to-back games without a passing touchdown, the Wildcats found the endzone three times through the air last weekend, with Davion Johnson hauling in his first two scores of the season.
- Fellow receiver Kobe Clark remains one of the most reliable scoring options in the Western Athletic Conference, racking up seven receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown. The Sweetwater native is now just two catches shy of tying Josh Fink (2016-19) for third on the program's all-time list.
- Seven different Wildcats recorded a rushing attempt against SFA, as the running game will continue to be a heavy part of the ACU offense against a Jacksonville State team that is allowing north of 180 yards per game on the ground.

Jacksonville State (3-5, 1-2 WAC/ASUN Challenge)
- JSU is coming off back-to-back losses against Sam Houston and Central Arkansas, falling 38-14 in last weekend's contest. The Gamecocks are 2-2 so far at home this fall, picking up victories over North Alabama and SFA.
- Running back Josh Samuel went over the century mark for the third time this season last Saturday against UCA, recording 113 yards and a touchdown on just 12 carries. He leads the team with 81 rushing attempts so far this fall, and his 57.9 yards per game are good enough for fourth in the ASUN Conference.
- Zerrick Cooper has completed 126 of his 238 pass attempts so far this season, throwing for 1,428 yards and six touchdowns. His favorite target to date has been freshman Ahmad Edwards, who collected his team-best eighth touchdown in the second quarter last Saturday.
