Volleyball closes out regular season on the road

ABILENE, Texas - The Wildcats head back on the road after a long homestand to close out the regular season at Lamar and UTRGV. ACU will face the Cardinals on Thursday night looking for the season sweep after earning the 3-1 win at home in early October. In their first meeting with the Vaqueros, ACU fell in five sets and will have a chance for a season split on Saturday afternoon.

ACU STORYLINES

  • The Wildcats went 1-1 last weekend including a huge win over the division leader, Sam Houston, on Thursday night. 
  • In their past three matches against the Cardinals, the Wildcats have hit .237 or better in each match, with a .319 team hitting percentage this past spring. 
  • While ACU brings a three-match winning streak into Beaumont, they have yet to get a win on the road against the Cardinals.
  • Lindsey Toney continues to lead the team in kills per set (4.55) and freshman Bryley Steinhilber has been solid over the last half of the season with double-digit kill outings in five of the pervious eight matches.
  • Londyn Gray has earned starts in the previous two matches and is coming off a solid match against SFA where she tallied 11 kills on a team-high .321 hitting percentage. 

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS

  • Lamar has had a rough start to their time in the WAC sitting at 0-10 in conference play. 
  • Kaitlyn Gil leads the team with 206 kills, averaging 2.61 per set, and is hitting .099 on the season.
  • Malaysia Murdock is leading the team in hitting percentage at .288 on the season and also leads in blocks per set averaging 0.77 for the season.
  • Libero, Giselle Santini, has 304 digs on the season to lead the team averaging 3.80 per set. 

SCOUTING THE VAQUEROS

  • UTRGV is sitting at 6-4 in WAC play and sit in third place in the Southwest Division.
  • Sarah Cruz leads the Vaqueros in kills (317) and kills per set (4.31). 
  • The team is fourth in the WAC for blocks per set at 2.04, they have four players averaging at or better than 0.49 blocks per set. Luisa Silva Dos Santos leads the team at 0.98 blocks per set.
  • Evana Ramos leads the team with 348 digs, averaging 3.82 per set.
