Volleyball hosts UTRGV and Lamar on the weekend

ABILENE - After opening WAC play on the road, the Wildcats return home to host Southwest Division foes, UTRGV and Lamar. The Wildcats will get their first look at a new team in the WAC when they host UTRGV on Thursday night in the Teague Center. The Vaqueros sit at 1-1 in conference play while Lamar is 0-1 with their only conference against coming last weekend against UTRGV.

ACU STORYLINES

  • Madison Rohre continues to lead the WAC in assists per set, averaging 10.35 per set.
  • The Wildcats had a couple of solid individual performances last weekend with Brea Box hitting .579 with 11 kills at SFA and Bryley Steinhilber with eight kills on a .381 hitting percentage at Sam Houston
  • ACU has four players ranked within the top 10 in the WAC in different categories: Lindsey Toney kills per set (2, 4.49), Madison Rohre assists per set (1, 10.35), Madison Lawler digs per set (6, 4.19), Breanna Box hitting percentage (5, .350)
  • Three different Wildcats have reached 100 kills on the season: Jada Birkel, Breanna Box, and Lindsey Toney. Toney leads the way with 184 on the year. 

SCOUTING THE VAQUEROS

  • UTRGV comes into the weekend 9-6 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. 
  • The team is fifth in the WAC in kills per set at 13.18 per set, just ahead of the Wildcats who average 13.12 per set. 
  • Jandova leads UTRGV in hitting percentage at .321 on the season while Cruz leads the team in kills per set at 4.39. 
  • The Vaqueros have had a balanced defense on the season with five different athletes totaling over 100 digs and averaging over two digs per set. 

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS

  • Lamar comes into the weekend 4-11 on the season with an 0-1 conference record. Lamar's only conference competition was a loss against UTRGV last weekend. 
  • The Cardinals will play Tarleton on Thursday night before making the trip to Abilene for the match on Saturday. 
  • Junior Kaitlyn Gil is leading Lamar with 2.96 kills per set and 3.32 points per set. 
  • Giselle Santini leads the team in digs with 173, averaging 3.33 per set.
