Week 9: Wildcats head to Oldest Town in Texas to battle SFA

ABILENE – Following a late bye, the ACU football team is back in action this week, heading to Nacogdoches to take on longtime rival SFA in Western Athletic Conference play. The last two games between the Wildcats and the Jacks have been incredibly even matched, with ACU pulling out a double overtime victory in 2019 and SFA kicking a game-winning field goal in overtime last fall.

Abilene Christian (4-3, 1-2 WAC/ASUN Challenge)
- Two Saturdays ago, the rushing attack was a huge part of the game plan for the Wildcats in their second meeting of the season against Lamar, as all three scores came on the ground in a 24-17 Homecoming win. Quarterback Peyton Mansell eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark for the second time this season while adding a pair of touchdowns.
- Hunter Kier continues to lead the Purple and White in tackles this season, and his season high ten tackles against Lamar were enough to pick up the WAC Defensive Player of the Week award on October 18. He is the third Wildcat player to win a weekly award from the league office this fall, joining quarterback Stone Earle (Sept. 13) and defensive end Jordan Paup (Sept. 20).
- Wide receiver Kobe Clark could be a big contributor on Saturday, as he has totaled 17 catches for 273 yards and a score in three career meetings against SFA. In just two games against WAC teams this season, Clark has collected nine receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown.

SFA (4-3, 0-2 WAC/ASUN Challenge)
- The Jacks are coming off a 37-20 road victory over Dixie State after falling to nationally-ranked teams in close games in each of the previous two weeks. The explosive SFA offense was clicking last Saturday, with wide receiver Xavier Gipson highlighting the night with a performance that included eight receptions, 208 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
- Gipson was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, while redshirt freshman kicker Chris Campos picked up the league's Special Teams Player of the Week. Campos went 3-for-3 on field goals last weekend, connecting from 40, 43 and a stadium-record 53 yards to total 13 points for the game. He currently leads the conference with 10.3 points per game behind 15 field goals and a perfect 27-for-27 resumé in extra points.
- The SFA defense has turned it up when it matters, limiting opponents to a third down conversion rate of just 31.0% (14th nationally) and a fourth down conversion rate of 21.4% (T-5th nationally). The Jacks are also winning the turnover margin with a +5 clip so far this fall, far and away the best mark of any team in the WAC/ASUN Challenge.
