Week 7: Wildcats welcome Lamar for Homecoming, first-ever WAC contest

ABILENE – The ACU football team is back at Wildcat Stadium this week, hosting Lamar for Homecoming in the second matchup between the two teams this season. The Purple and White defeated the Cardinals 56-0 in Beaumont earlier this fall, but this week's game will serve as ACU's first-ever Western Athletic Conference contest.

Abilene Christian (3-3, 0-2 WAC/ASUN Challenge)
- In the previous meeting against Lamar, eight different Wildcats got into the end zone, including Koy Richardson and Ryan Stapp, who both scored defensive touchdowns.
- The rushing attack continues to be a focal point of the ACU offense, as the 192.2 rushing yards per game are currently second in the WAC. Both of Abilene Christian's scores last week came on the ground, with Tyrese White getting in from six yards out in the second quarter and Stone Earle finding paydirt in the fourth.
- Earle's arm remains a threat for the Wildcats, as he currently leads the WAC and ranks 12th in the country in touchdown passes with 13. He has connected for a score with top target Kobe Clark on five occasions, who is still in the top ten in the nation in touchdown receptions.
- Special teams have played a big role for ACU, with Logan Burke averaging 43.6 yards per punt and pinning opponents inside the 20 three times. In the kicking game, half of Blair Zepeda's kickoffs have gone for touchbacks this fall, and his season-best 47-yarder is just four yards shy of his career-best.

Lamar (2-3, 0-1 WAC/ASUN Challenge)
- The Cardinals' will again focus on running the triple option this week, as 218 out of the team's 290 offensive snaps have been on the ground. Chaz Ward has received the bulk of those carries, rushing the ball 58 times for 192 yards and three touchdowns.
- Erik Pizarro has emerged as Lamar's lead receiver, hauling in 10 catches for 164 yards and a touchdown. Jack Roe and Connor Venetis are the only other Cardinal wideouts with a scoring grab, with both doing so in the season opener against North American.
- Lamar has already turned in an impressive road win this season, defeating Northern Colorado in overtime back on September 18. Bailey Giffin's 26-yard field goal sent the game to overtime, and Ward rushed for a 10-yard touchdown that ended up being the game-winner.
