ABILENE—The Southland Conference announced on Monday their Academic All-Conference team for the 2020 beach volleyball season. Sophomore,
Mackenzie Harris, earned a place on the team in her first season being eligible for the award
An accounting major, Harris is in her second beach volleyball season with the Wildcats and has maintained a 4.0 GPA through the fall semester. As a sophomore, she teamed with partner
Hunter Barker to play at the No. 1 position for the Wildcats. In the shortened season, the pair went 3-9 including closing the season going 2-0 in a doubleheader against Benedictine (Ariz.).
"We are thrilled to have Mackenzie honored by the Southland Conference," head coach,
Angela Mooney, stated. "With this being her second season on the sand, many have seen her hard work on the court but not everyone has the opportunity to see first hand how well she excels academically. She works tremendously hard in all she does and we are very proud of this recognition."
The All-Academic teams are voted on by the head coach, sports information director and academic/compliance staff member from each institution. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA and have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to qualify for All-Academic selection.
The Southland Conference awards committee, which consists of one administrator from each of the 13 member schools, votes for the student-athlete of the year. The Southland student-athlete of the year award is presented to one student-athlete who achieves excellence in both academics and athletics. All nominees must have earned at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale and demonstrated athletics achievement for at least two years at the nominating institution.
