Wildcats ready for regular-season finale with No. 2 seed up for grabs

SAN ANTONIO – The ACU women's basketball team can still clinch the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament next week as it heads into the regular-season finale of the 2019-20 season. The Wildcats (23-5, 15-4 SLC) will battle the UIW Cardinals for the second time this season, and with a win and a little help, could clinch a double-bye for next week.

TOURNAMENT POSITIONING
  • ACU clinches the No. 2 seed if:
    • ACU wins at UIW
    • AND
    • Sam Houston State wins at SFA
  • ACU clinches the No. 3 seed if:
    • ACU loses at UIW
    • OR
    • SFA wins vs. Sam Houston State
  • ACU cannot clinch the No. 1 spot, but could clinch a share of the regular-season championship if the Wildcats win AND Texas A&M-Corpus Christi loses to Houston Baptist. ACU also cannot be the No. 4 seed in the tournament.

SERIES HISTORY
  • The two long-time rivals from the Lone Star Conference have met 33 times, with ACU leading the series 23-10.
  • It's been all Wildcats since the teams moved to Division I in 2013, with ACU leading 11-2 in that span.
  • However, UIW did beat ACU back on Feb. 1 in Abilene, 71-70. After Breanna Wright tied the game with a three-pointer, Imani Robinson drew a foul with one second left, hit one of two free throws, and UIW left ACU with the upset win.

ACU STORYLINES
  • ACU ROUTS SFA IN FINAL GAME AT MOODY… ACU ran away from the SFA Ladyjacks in a top-three showdown in the Southland Conference on March 3. The Wildcats led by as many as 30 points and won by 26 points, 88-62. ACU hit 15 three-pointers and shot 62.5% from distance, their best in the Division I era of the progrma in a single game.
  • "DOM"-INANT PERFORMANCE AT HOME… It was a night to remember for senior Dominique Golightly, who scored 33 points and hit nine three-pointers in the win over SFA. Both numbers tied for the most in a single game in the Division I history of ACU women's basketball. The Chickasha, Okla. native hit 12 field goals in the game, also tying a DI program record.
  • OFFENSIVE SUCCESS… The team ranks 12th in the country in scoring at 79.8 points per game, and the +15.7 scoring margin per game ranks 16th in all of women's college basketball as well. The 48.6% shooting from the field ranks fifth in America, and the 38.1% shooting from distance ranks ninth in the country.
  • MABRY ON THE GLASS… Junior Makayla Mabry had the best two-game stretch of her career on the glass. The San Antonio native recorded a new career-high with 14 rebounds against Sam Houston State, and backed it up with 10 more in the win over Central Arkansas. She backed it up with nine more against SFA.
