LUBBOCK – Junior
Annina Brandenburg Saturday won her second shot put title of the indoor season after reaching a distance of 15.81 meters / 51 feet-10.50 inches at the Texas Tech Matador qualifier.
The Dusseldorf, Germany, native attained this distance on her second attempt and matched it on her fourth try to stay ahead of 11 additional competitors through six rounds. South Plains' Siiva Tafiti was the runner-up behind a mark of 15.36 / 50-04.75.
ACU only dispatched six throwers to this event, which was their final tune-up prior to next week's (March 1-2) Southland Conference Indoor Championships.
In the women's weight throw, freshmen
Kaylee Rampey and
Taylor McCoy placed fourth and sixth, respectively, behind personal best efforts of 14.43m (47-04.25) and 13.67m (44-10.25). Redshirt freshman
Tyler Richardson also PRd in the weight throw with his fifth-place distance of 16.97m (55-08.25).
First-year thrower
Jacob Mechler and junior
Thomas Wilson III finished right ahead of Richardson in the weight throw. Mechler's best toss landed at 18.09m (59-04.25) and Wilson's measured 17.41m (57-01.50).
Richardson's best shot put mark of 16.72 meters (54-10.25) was good for third place behind a pair of Texas Tech juniors Gabriel Oladipo (17.73m / 58-2) and Braden Darrow (16.99m / 55-9).
