McLeod, Mraz have career nights in ACU’s dominant win

GREELEY, Colo. – Redshirt senior Anna McLeod scored a career-high 28 points, hit a career-high nine three-pointers, and guided ACU to a dominant 81-61 win over Northern Colorado Friday night at the Bank of Colorado Arena. Redshirt sophomore Kamryn Mraz set a new career high with 16 points and was joined by Makayla Mabry with that total en route to a 20-point victory. ACU led for 35 minutes, hit 14 three-pointers, and is now 4-0 for the third consecutive season.

Turning Point
  • Trailing 11-10 with 3:50 left in the first quarter, ACU grabbed the lead on a three-pointer by Mabry. The Wildcats would never trail again. The lead got to as many as 25 points in the second half on the way to the 20-point victory.

Key Plays
  • Mabry was the catalyst early along with McLeod. Both were hitting from the outside. McLeod hit back-to-back three's from the corner to get the scoring started from distance, and Mabry's back-to-back three's in the middle of the first quarter started the big run.
  • Mraz hit a three with 7:31 left in the first half to push the lead to nine points, 26-17. It forced a timeout by Northern Colorado, and the momentum shifted and never left again.
  • McLeod added another three in the corner, this time getting hit in the process. She completed the rare four-point play and was absolutely feeling it from behind the arc.
  • Alyssa Adams hit a layup early in the third period to push the lead across to 20, and Anna McLeod nearly put the game out of reach with back-to-back triples.
  • McLeod's seventh three-pointer came early in the fourth, and it set a new career mark for the Houston native. It also is the third-highest amount in a single game in ACU's Division I history.

The Numbers
  • McLeod's 28 points, nine field goals made, and seven three-pointers are all career highs, and the seven triples is the third-most in a single game in ACU's Division I history. Alexis Mason and Dominique Golightly hit nine in a game, while Mason, Breanna Wright, and Renata Marquez each hit eight in a game.
  • For the second straight game, Mraz set a new career mark in points, this time with 16.
  • Mabry played the most minutes of her season (31) and scored 16 points and hit four triples in the game. Mabry is ACU's Division I leader in career three-point percentage (39%).
  • Adams tallied 11 points and six rebounds, matching Mabry for a team-high in boards.
  • ACU hit 14 three-pointers, and continues its stretch of 10+ three's made in each game this season.
  • ACU shot 50% from the floor for the game.
  • The 'Cats were just as impressive defensively, forcing 20 turnovers and tallying 15 steals.
  • Mraz, McLeod, and Madi Miller each recorded three steals.
