ABILENE – Abilene Christian football visits the eastern time zone for the second time this fall and the state of Georgia for the first time since the 2014 season opener when it takes on the Mercer Bears at Five Star Stadium Halloween afternoon.
This is the first gridiron meeting between the Wildcats and Mercer Bears. ACU's last trip to the ‘Peach State’ took place an hour north of Mercer at the old Georgia Dome in downtown Atlanta, where the Wildcats were edged 38-37 by Georgia State on ESPNU.
Both teams enter Saturday's contest looking for their first wins of the season. ACU dropped to 0-3 after suffering a 35-32 overtime loss last Saturday vs. Southland Conference rival in Arlington, while the Bears are 0-2 following back-to-back losses vs. Jacksonville State, 34-28, and Army, 49-3.
Saturday's game is Mercer's homecoming in addition to its final home game of the fall. The Bears will play an eight-game Southern Conference schedule next spring from Feb. 20 to April 17.
