Gerlach wins first XC AOTW award from Southland

ABILENE -- Junior Briahna Gerlach Tuesday was voted Southland Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week. The native of Gakona, Alaska, earned the honor after running a seventh-place 5K time of 18:49.10 at Saturday's Texas Tech Open.
This is the second weekly Southland honor of Gerlach's career, but first during the cross country season. She was selected as its Track Athlete of the Week on May 1, 2019 in recognition of her steeplechase victory at the Oliver Jackson Twilight Open.
Abilene Christian's women's XC program has received 14 weekly plaudits from the Southland since the school rejoined the conference in 2013. Alexandria Hackett won the award a program-high four times followed by senior Carnley Graham (3), Michaela Hackett (2), Diana Garcia Munoz (2) and Chloe Susset (2).
Gerlach additionally is the second Wildcat student-athlete for the 2019-20 academic year to garner a conference weekly honor as goalkeeper Erin Smith received her prize back on Aug. 27 following back-to-back at New Mexico State and UTEP.
Next up for the Wildcats is a trip to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Oct. 5 Chili Pepper Invitational.
