LUBBOCK -- Sophomore Kevin Kipkosgei and junior Briahna Gerlach were the Wildcats' men's and women's teams top finishers for the second straight meet as each led their respective squad to the finish line at Saturday's Texas Tech Open at the Lubbock Christian University Golf Course.
Kipkosgei completed his first 8K of the season with a ninth-place time of 26:51.80, tying him with Tarleton State's Michael Simcho, while Gerlach finished seventh in her 5K at 18:49.10.
Today's meet featured 11 teams in each race with well over 100 competitors.
LCU won the men's team title with 57 points as it claimed three runners among the top ten, but the top individual honor went to Wayland Baptists' Dennis Kiptoo (25:48.00).
The women's team crown went to the host Lady Raiders with 38 points as they had seven runners finish between 3rd and 14th place. The individual winner was New Mexico Junior College's Flomena Asekol, who dominated the field with her 5K mark of 17:44.90. Last year's winner Gladys Jemaiyo of South Plains was the distant runner-up at 18:07.60.
