ABILENE—Abilene Christian volleyball opened their home slate with the first game of the 2019 Wildcat Classic. The Wildcats hosted the Titans of Cal State Fullerton in a match that saw 25 ties and 25 lead changes. While ACU showed many positive spurts throughout each set, it would be the Titans who came away with the win in straight sets.
ACU kept pace with the Titans throughout the first set with the score tied as late as 22-all. The Titans put away three straight kills to end the set and their offense took off from there. The Wildcats would hold at least a three-point lead in sets two and three, but were never able to put enough points on the board to overcome the Titans attack. Late in set two, ACU was able to cut the Titan lead to one point, but once again they were able to close out the set with three straight points. The Wildcats made a push early in the third set, going up by four, but each time they got momentum Fullerton came back with a run of their own, earning the sweep with a 25-19 win.
Marybeth Sandercox and
Lindsey Toney led the way offensively for the Wildcats with nine kills each. Sandercox came away with another efficient performance hitting .533 for the match, giving her back-to-back matches hitting .500 or better. Toney also just missed a double-double, coming one kill shy, as she notched 12 digs on the night.
Eighmy Dobbins led the Wildcats with 13 digs on the night, while
Lorin McNeil totaled four blocks, including one solo block, to lead the team.

News and Notes
- This is the first time in Sandercox's career that she has had back-to-back .500 or better hitting percentages, this is her fourth overall match hitting at or above .500 when she has had at least 10 attempts.
- This is the first match that Mackenzie Harris has not had at least a share of the lead in digs for the Wildcats.
- The four blocks for McNeil are a season-high.
- The Wildcats will see the PVAMU Panthers tomorrow night after facing the same team this past Sunday.
