FRISCO, Texas – The Southland Conference announced its 2019 Softball All-Conference accolades Tuesday, and three Wildcats were honored as all-league performers. All yearly awards are presented by Ready Nutrition.
Sophomore
Samantha Bradley was named to the Third Team as a designated Player, while junior
Linsey Tomlinson was also named Third Team as an outfielder. Junior
Blair Clayton earned Honorable Mention honors in the outfield as well.
Sam Houston State's Lindsey McLeod is the 2019 Southland Conference Player of the Year, while Bearkat head coach Garrett Valis was named Coach of the Year. Stephen F. Austin's Margarita Corona was named Hitter of the Year, and Lamar's Jade Lewis is the Southland's Newcomer of the Year. Kassidy Wilbur of SFA is the Freshman of the Year in the league as well.
Bradley, in her first season at ACU, earns third-team honors after leading the team with a .333 batting average throughout the conference season. The sophomore transfer from Louisiana started 25 league games, and tallied 23 hits, including four doubles and a pair of home runs. Her 11 runs driven in were third on the team in SLC play as well.
Tomlinson, another first-year Wildcat, garners a spot on the third-team list after starting all 27 league games in left field for head coach
Bobby Reeves. The Mary Hardin-Baylor transfer talliead a team-best 25 hits in conference games, including a pair of home runs and six doubles. Her .414 on-base percentage was second-best on the squad, after drawing nine walks and a pair of hit-by-pitch plate appearances. Tomlinson drove home a team-high 14 runs against league opponents this season.
Clayton, a junior right fielder, earned a spot on the honorable mention team after batting just one point shy of .300 across 27 conference games. The Caldwell, Texas native recorded 23 hits, and led the way with five home runs and a .545 slugging percentage. Clayton drove in 12 runs against league foes and recorded just four errors all season in right field. In her first season as a starter, Clayton tallied a .379 on-base percentage, and tallied a team-high 42 total bases.
The 2019 All-Southland Conference Softball Teams were nominated and voted on by the league's coaches and sports information directors.
